Online thematic workshop: strategies for a competitive and sustainable tourism sector

21 Sep 2021, 14:00-17:00
Online

On Tuesday 21st September 2021, from 14:00 to 17:00 CET, the E- workshop on the topic of competitive and sustainable tourism sector will take place on the Policy Learning Platform.

Tourism is among the most affected economic sectors by the Covid-19 crisis. This is why it is now at the very heart of recovery efforts in many regions.

Europe is moving on, resuming travels thanks to EU cooperation, and now it is time for local and regional policymakers to rethink tourism. Unsustainable paths, that prevailed before the crisis, have to be abandoned: tourism sector needs to bounce back competitively while being part of the green transformations ahead of us.

The aim of the event is to learn how to promote your own region thanks to tourism development strategies, branding and multi- stakeholder involvement. Participants will also learn how to create a diversified and sustainable tourism offer based on the valorisation of the regional natural and cultural heritage.

There will be three 45 minutes consecutive sessions. The first is focused on the exploitation of the industrial heritage that led to the valorisation of the Swedish region of Västra Götaland. The second session is structured in the form of an open debate around Interreg Europe good practices. The final session is about the EU funding for competitive and sustainable tourism for the 2021- 2027 period.

The final agenda and registration form can be accessed at the event website.

After the event (17.00-17.45 CEST) an on-line policy helpdesk will be available. The helpdesk is currently fully booked, but submissions are nonetheless warmly welcomed and can be submitted here. You will receive information on Policy Learning Platform services and tailor- made policy support on any specific policy challenges you are facing.
